SEASONAL EVENTS AT CRAMBE GRANGE FARM

Throughout the year, we also host a range of seasonal events that bring the community closer to the rhythms of the farm. From summer pick-your-own days and guided wildlife walks to autumn harvest celebrations and winter wreath-making workshops, each event is designed to help visitors experience the beauty and diversity of the countryside firsthand. These gatherings offer a chance to learn, explore, and enjoy the farm in every season, strengthening our connection with the people who support us and creating memorable moments rooted in nature and rural life.

SPRING

Lambing Season & New Life on the Farm

Lambing season is a highlight of our farming year, bringing fresh energy and new life to the fields. It requires long hours and close attention, but seeing healthy lambs take their first steps makes every effort worthwhile.

Nurturing Ewes & Newborn Lambs

Caring for our ewes and their lambs is at the heart of our animal welfare commitment. We provide a calm, comfortable environment during lambing and carefully monitor both ewe and lamb to ensure feeding, bonding, and healthy growth.

Our Cereal Crops

Our cereal crops are closely monitored throughout the growing season to ensure healthy plants and a balanced farm ecosystem. By checking soil condition, nutrient levels, and wildlife activity, we can support sustainable, resilient growth without unnecessary inputs. These crops are an important part of our farm system and reflect our commitment to working in harmony with the land.

SUMMER

Grazing & Pasture Management

Thoughtful grazing and pasture management is essential to keeping our flock healthy and the land thriving. We rotate grazing areas to protect the soil, encourage natural plant diversity, and prevent overgrazing.

Weaning & Growth Season

As lambs grow, weaning marks an important stage in their development. We handle this process gradually and calmly to minimise stress and support healthy growth. Once weaned, lambs transition onto fresh pasture where they continue to develop strong frames and good condition.

Harvest

Harvest time is a rewarding culmination of months of careful crop management. As the fields turn golden, we work methodically to bring in the grain at its peak, ensuring quality while protecting the soil for future seasons. It’s a busy period, but also one that highlights the value of sustainable practices—healthy crops grown in harmony with the land. Each harvest strengthens the connection between our farming efforts and the food we produce for our community.

AUTUMN

The New Crop Season

Drilling for the new crop season marks the start of another farming cycle, setting the stage for healthy growth in the months ahead. We prepare the soil carefully, ensuring good structure and moisture balance before sowing each seed with precision.

Winter Feed

As the colder months approach, we focus on preparing winter feed to ensure our flock stays well-nourished when fresh pasture is limited. We carefully cut, dry, and store hay and silage during the summer, preserving the best of the season for use throughout winter.

Breeding Season

Breeding season is a carefully managed time on the farm, focused on ensuring the long-term health and quality of our flock. We select breeding pairs thoughtfully, looking for strong genetics, good temperament, and overall wellbeing. During this period we monitor the ewes closely, providing balanced nutrition and a calm environment to support successful conception. This steady, attentive approach helps lay the foundations for healthy pregnancies, robust lambs, and a thriving flock for the year ahead

WINTER

Winter Feeding & Shelter Care

During the colder months, providing reliable feed and monitoring the flock is an essential part of  the work we undertake for the wellbeing of our flock. We ensure winter rations are nutritious, balanced, and prepared well in advance, using carefully stored hay and silage from the summer.

Ewe Health & Pregnancy Monitoring

As ewes progress through pregnancy, we monitor them closely to support safe, healthy lambing. Regular checks help us track body condition, nutrition needs, and overall wellbeing. We make sure each ewe receives appropriate feed, quiet space, and minimal stress, all of which are vital for strong pregnancies and successful births.

Reviewing the End Of The Farming Year

As the farming year draws to a close, we take time to reflect on the seasons behind us—celebrating successes, learning from challenges, and planning for the year ahead. Reviewing each stage of our work, from lambing to harvest, helps us refine our practices and strengthen our commitment to sustainable, responsible farming. This moment of reflection ensures we continue to improve the land, care for our animals, and honour the values that guide our farm throughout every season.
